Beginning Our 2012 Season

We’re very excited. We’re off to our earliest start ever. We’ve spread rich compost on our sites to nurture healthy soil and healthy plants, and with this dry and unseasonably warm weather, we’ve already seeded our first rounds of greens, radish, peas, and carrots. This year, we’ll also design, grow, and harvest our very own Dorchester & Roxbury salad mixes.

We’re growing on four different plots this year, in four different neighborhoods in Dorchester and Roxbury. We’ve been busy all winter preparing to transform an abandoned, quarter-acre Dorchester plot into a beautiful and productive Dorchester farm site. Now, we finally get to begin that transformation. We’ve begun the beautiful and demanding work of Spring everywhere: cultivating, bed-shaping, planting, weeding. We’re hungry to start proudly harvesting and sharing our city-grown produce, and  with the first substantial rainfall of spring this morning, we’re that much closer.
